Lab note: field of view, nits and the weight budget
Late-August measurements: FOV around 30°, HUD brightness in sun, grams on the frame, milliwatts in the illuminator. Honest, and not a shop-shelf claim.
On 21 August we measured the stack now in alignment. Four waveguide samples. Field of view 28–31°, target about 30°, without a headset-style slab over the world. Outdoors the HUD layer holds roughly 1800–2200 nits at the eye at peak illumination. It is not a series: two samples drop into a yellow zone in direct sun.
Weight. Budget for frame + optics + compute is 45 g. The current build is 51 g. Six grams cannot be drawn on a slide; they have to come off the illuminator driver and the hinge housing. The 12 MP camera remains at the hinge, 3 mm, sapphire. Nothing sits on the temples.
The chart is HUD brightness against illuminator power on one bench. The curve flattens after about 240 mW: beyond that we heat the glass instead of buying readability. Alignment yield this week: 6 of 9 cells inside spec.
Next node: the illuminator driver in Q4 2026. Without it, outdoor brightness stays a lab number. This is not a public offer of securities.
